A Message from John Harvey, Founder:
There is nothing more important in leadership than raising up new young people! For several years Sharon and I felt the need to train up someone to continue the administration and directorship of ASELSI in the years ahead. This has been a process that has taken about three years and will continue for another three or four years. To be clear, we are not planning to fully retire and leave Guatemala. Over the last few years we have seen the consequences of illness and how limiting that can be. We have cut back on some of our responsibilities, while continuing to train and disciple new leadership.
Emanuel Peréz de La Roca has worked with us since 2004. He first caught our attention when he studied both the High School and the Associate Degree levels in our Bible Institute at the same time. He passed with flying colors! He has worked in just about every department and shown initiative, wisdom, maturity and tireless energy. He has strong Christian standards and feels called to work in ministry. In 2010 Emanuel became General Administrator under our leadership at ASELSI. He showed us his ability to find favor with both the Guatemalans and the missionaries. His love for the Lord, his love for worship, and his love for the poor in Guatemala give ASELSI the leadership it needs for the future. The Board of Directors of ASELSI Ministries voted in December 2012 to make Emanuel the new General Director of ASELSI.
Jessica Ruth Gormley de Pérez married Emanuel in 2009 and they live happily here in Chichicastenango. She has been a missionary since 2007. Jessica is a wonderful help to Emanuel, and the two of them form a strong team. She has a passion for handicapped children and developed our Little Lamb’s Center. They now have two children, Abiel and Caleb.
With Emanuel and Jess, we are excited about building Christ’s Kingdom as we “equip the saints for the work of the ministry”.
